Most mathematicians I know tend to pay attention to detail, but that seems to go out the window with the Sage developers. I looked at Sage, hoping it would be a useful alternative to the commercial products, but in my opinion it is simply not useful due to a very lax attitude towards bugs and code quality. You can write programs that combine serious mathematics with anything else. You work with SAGE using the highly regarded scripting language Python instead of an obscure language designed for a particular mathematics program. SAGE includes interfaces to Magma, Maple, Mathematica, MATLAB, and MuPAD, and the free programs Axiom, GAP, GP/PARI, Macaulay2, Maxima, Octave, and Singular.
